When everyone has AI, what sets you apart?

You can’t avoid it. AI is writing our emails, analyzing data, conducting research, creating images (including the one above), developing presentations and producing more marketing content in minutes than most teams can create in weeks.

And given all the articles and news stories that hit my feed, we’re just getting started.

For marketers, the opportunities are fantastic. But there’s a flip side.

When everyone has access to the same powerful tools, it’s easier for everyone to look polished, sound smart, and produce lots of content.

So, what will differentiate one organization from another?

Your brand.

Not your logo. Not your tagline. Not how often you post on social media.

Your brand is the value you create for the people you serve. The experiences, reputation, and relationships that give them a reason to choose you.

AI is raising the bar.

Information and choices have never been more abundant or accessible. Your customers can research products, compare alternatives, get answers, and educate themselves before they ever reach out to you. At the same time, they’re being bombarded with content about what to buy, why to buy it, and even when to buy it. The answer isn’t to be louder.

The answer is to be more valuable.

That requires understanding what your customers need – not what you assume they need.

Talk to them. Ask what frustrates them. Find out what they value. Understand why they choose you – or why they don’t. Learn what they wish you did differently.

Don’t rely on survey data alone. It’s about having a conversation. Listen for objections and probe to understand what’s behind them. Listen for unmet needs and keep asking questions.

AI can help you analyze those insights. But first, you must uncover them.

Then, build your brand around solving problems that genuinely matter.

Authenticity matters even more.

AI can help you communicate with your customers. It can’t manufacture authenticity.

Strong brands know what they stand for. They have a distinct point-of-view. And there’s consistency between what they promise and what customers actually experience.

As AI content becomes ubiquitous, generic marketing is going to become easier to spot and easier to ignore.

Smart marketers weave distinctive language and tone throughout their communications, so every message feels unmistakably like their brand – and no one else’s.

Authenticity isn’t just a communications strategy.

It’s a business strategy.

I’m not suggesting you do less with AI. Quite the opposite.

Use it to analyze well-crafted research. Use it to challenge assumptions. Use it to explore options. Use it to eliminate mundane tasks. Use it more to give your people more time to think, create, listen, and build relationships.

The brands that win are those that combine the extraordinary capabilities of AI with what technology can’t generate on command:

  • Deep customer understanding
  • A distinctive point-of-view
  • Meaningful relationships
  • A reputation earned by consistently delivering real value

As AI continues to transform how we work and compete, ask yourself:

  1. Do we truly understand what our customers value most?
  2. Are we solving a problem that matters – or simply promoting what we sell?
  3. What do we offer that customers can’t easily find somewhere else?
  4. Does what we promise as a brand match what customers experience?
  5. Are we using AI to better understand our customers, connect more deeply, and deliver greater value?

If the recent headlines tell us anything, it’s that no one knows exactly where AI will take us.

But a fundamental principle of branding isn’t changing: Give people a compelling reason to choose you. Then prove, again and again, that their choice is worth it.

In a world where almost everyone can create more, faster and cheaper, creating something people genuinely value may be the most powerful competitive advantage of all.

Are you giving people a compelling reason to choose your brand?

Let’s uncover what makes your brand worth choosing.  laura@vivalabrand.com
