Your 2024 Super Bowl Ad Cheat Sheet
This Sunday in Las Vegas, the Kansas City Chiefs face off against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58. Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes returns for his fourth Super Bowl in five years.
Nap before the game. You won’t want to miss a second. On the field, the battle between the Chiefs and the 49ers is predicted to be a fight until the end. Off the field, there may even more drama as celebrities descend Las Vegas. Will Taylor Swift make it back from her tour in Japan to cheer on her sweetheart, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce? For others like me, it’s all about the commercials!
Here’s the inside scoop on the Super Bowl ads we’ll see on Sunday:
Keep an eye out for these ads getting buzz ahead of the big game:
The Rookie Lineup
Rookie #1: e.l.f. Cosmetics goes to court in its Super Bowl debut.
Beauty brand e.l.f Cosmetics is going to court and summoning celebs for “jury beauty”. Don’t blink else you’ll miss the cameo appearances by Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor, comedian Benito Skinner, RuPaul’s Drag Race personality HeidiNCloset, Former NFL football player and current sports analyst Emmanuel Acho, and Jury Duty’s Ronald Gladden.
Rookie #2: Advocacy group, The Foundation to Combat Antisemitism, will urge viewers to stand against prejudice.
Backed by New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, the group is airing its first Super Bowl spot with a message of empathy and action.
Rookie #3: Chocolatier Lindt is debuting its first Super Bowl ad during the 1st quarter.
Lindt’s ad features its ball, the Lindor truffle, one of six ads for candy during the big game. Viewers are taken on a journey that explores the simple joy of eating a Lindor truffle. A wrapped truffle floats through several scenes, from a woman enjoying a backyard pool to a couple taking in a sunset on the hood of their car, and finally ending up at a chocolate maker’s table.
Rookie #4: Nerds will air its first Super Bowl ad in hits 40-year history.
Teasing an unseen mystery star, Tik Tok sensation, singer, and dancer Addison Rae plays herself as a dance coach teaching a yet to be announced star to dance. We’ll have to wait until Super Bowl Sunday to find out who the mystery star is. The connection to Nerds? Addison munches on them when she takes breaks from dancing. (Is this a Hail Mary or a smart play?)
Rookie #5: Drumstick Ice Cream makes its Super Bowl debut with the help of Comedy Central’s Eric Andre.
Look for the 30-second spot during the 3rd quarter. The spot is part of a push to make the day after the Super Bowl a national holiday!
Veteran Players
Veteran #1: Frito-Lay’s Doritos will make its 24th Super Bowl appearance.
The snack brand is following up on last year’s cameo-laden, triangle-themed Jack Harlow spot by launching a new product: its rolled corn tortilla chip called Doritos Dinamita. Frito-Lay is serious about expanding their product suite by adding Flamin’ Hot Queso and three other flavors to the rolled tortilla line. The length of the spot and when it will air during the game are still under wraps.
Verteran #2: M&M’s is back for its 9th Super Bowl.
M&M’s Super Bowl campaign stars NFL Hall of Famers and ‘almost champions’ Dan Marino, Terrell Owens, and Bruce Smith. The famous M&M’s spokescandies playfully award the runners-up with ‘almost champion’ diamond rings made by transforming peanut flavored M&M’s into exquisite diamonds.
Veteran #3: Dove returns after a 14-year hiatus.
Dove is partnering with Nike for a 30-second spot that will run in the 1st quarter of the big game. The ad focuses on promoting body confidence and encouraging girls to stay involved in sports.
Veteran #4: The E*Trade baby returns, this time on the pickleball court.
Veteran #5: Oreo hopes to score like it did in 2013.
Remember when the lights went out in the stadium during Super Bowl 47 in 2013, suspending play for over 30 minutes? The brand adeptly and cleverly tweeted, “Power out? No problem. You can still dunk in the dark.” The impeccable timing and simplicity of the message dominated the conversation and made Oreo the buzz brand of the game.
Oreo is back. Its ad, called the “Twist”, starts at the Gates of Troy and is all about which side the filling ends up on after a twist of the iconic cookie. In the ad, Kris Jenner’s twist leads to her family’s sweet fate. (It’ll make sense when you see the ad!)
Veteran #6: Michelob ULTRA is back with more celebs.
It was only a matter of time before Ted Lasso, the fictional American football coach who is hired to manage a British soccer team in the TV series named after him, met Lionel Messi. In Michelob ULTRA’s ad, actor Jason Sudeikis, who played Ted Lasso, appears on the beach while Messi, the international soccer sensation, shows off his skills.
Veteran #7: DoorDash promises the sweepstakes of a lifetime.
To showcase its distribution prowess, DoorDash will deliver every vehicle, every cosmetic, every snack, and every other product from every commercial that airs during the Super Bowl to one lucky winner.
Keep your eyes peeled for their 30-second spot, which will drop a promo code to enter into their “DoorDash-all-the-ads” website to be entered to win.
