Marketing Lessons from Leah, a 2-year old!

IMG_1701

Leah, my fearless little sidekick who is two, slept over Saturday night. She may be small, but she delivered big lessons. Who knew a toddler’s antics could serve as a crash course in marketing?
Leah’s Lesson #1: Repetition + Consistency = Results

Leah doesn’t just tell her dog Sunny Bunny to “sit” once. She repeats it — with purpose, with persistence — until it sticks. That’s how behavior changes.

Same goes for marketing.

Effective calls-to-action are repeated. Clear brand messages are consistent. Leah also knows that when the answer to TV is always no, she stops asking. Why? Because consistency creates clarity.

Say it. Repeat it. Stick to it. That’s how you break through the noise and build trust.

Leah’s Lesson #2: Trust is Everything
Leah really missed her mommy and daddy. There were a few teary moments, the kind that tug at your heart. But when I reminded her of all the fun we’d had – crepes, dog treats, reading books – she smiled. She trusted me. Why? Because we built a connection. I followed through on promises (yes, to chocolate chips), and she knew she was safe.
That’s trust – and it’s the foundation of every great relationship, including those between brands and their audiences.
People don’t convert without trust. You can have the best call-to-action in the world, but if your audience doesn’t feel confident in your message, your product, or your brand, they’ll bounce. Just like Leah needed reminders of the good stuff, your audience needs consistent, authentic messaging to feel secure in saying “yes”.
Build trust first. The rest follows.

Leah’s Lesson #3: Engagement is Earned

If Leah had a job title, it’d be Chief Engagement Officer.

She doesn’t just exist in a room – she commands it. Whether it’s a dance performance, a dramatic reading of a board book, or a 5-minute monologue about her dog, Leah knows how to keep an audience hooked. Why? Because what she shares is 100% her. It’s authentic, relevant to her audience (me), and often surprisingly insightful. She doesn’t force attention. She earns it.
Marketers, take note.
Engagement doesn’t come from shouting louder. It comes from delivering content that’s entertaining, yes – but also relevant, meaningful, and valuable. Content that connects. Whether it’s a clever video, a thought-provoking article, or an easy to navigate website, your audience is asking: Is this for me? Does this matter?

Leah doesn’t worry about metrics. She just knows when she’s made someone laugh or clap or ask for “again”.
Leah’s Lesson #4: Storytelling Captivates
Leah doesn’t just tell you what happened – she performs it. She uses her voice, her hands, her entire being to bring the story to life.
That’s the essence of great marketing.
People remember stories not stats. They connect to people not products. When your brand communicates through storytelling – real, honest, relatable storytelling – you invite your audience into an experience, not a transaction.
Leah reminds us: if you want to capture attention and spark emotion, don’t just talk – tell a story.

Leah’s Lesson #5: Authenticity is Magnetic
Leah doesn’t try to impress you. She’s not figuring out what to say or rehearsing her moves. She shows up exactly as she is – mismatched socks, blueberry smoothie on her face and clothes, and curls that party in every direction. And that’s what makes her so compelling.

That’s authenticity – and it’s key in marketing.
Your audience doesn’t want perfection. They want real. They want brands that show up honestly, own their voice, and connect like humans.
Just like Leah, your brand is at its best when it’s unapologetically itself.
So yes, toddlers may want to give the dog a bagful of treats at once and ask for chocolate chips every ten minutes – but they also happen to be tiny, unfiltered marketing geniuses.
